Inspiration

We were all very passionate about animal endangerment so we were very excited to make a difference as a team. We took it as a challenge to do the most out of the 24 hours that we were given.

What it does

Lynx allows the users to easily access a database of many extinct animals from different zoos and residencies. It prevents extinction of a species by finding a mate for the animal so they can eventually increase population growth and save the species.

How we built it

We created a website that could store information on the animals and store it into a database. We started out with an AWS database but for the sake of time we simply just stored all the data into a JSON file. However, we still have intentions to implement a more efficient way to store our data like through AWS database.

Challenges we ran into

During this project, we ran into many issues. One example of these issues included the file not reading and writing. After a lot of research on stack overflow, many attempts at using different SDK and converting code very often, we finally got everything to work as expected and was a very exciting experience for us as a team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the biggest accomplishments that our team was very excited about was when the JSON file finally started to read and write properly. After a lot of struggling, once we finally got this working it was all downhill. This was very exciting because all of us got to see something that solved an issue that we were all very passionate about.

What we learned

We learned how to work under time pressure and what kind of sacrifices you must make in order to complete a working model. This is very important in real-life applications because you don't always have forever to make a demo for a company. You have to sometimes cut down on the features so that you can get the demo on time. Then you can add more features in the future. We also learned how to make use of AWS applications and JSON files. All of our team members are very happy to learn how to store data into the cloud and be able to view it on multiple devices that are connected to the internet.

What's next for Linx

One features that we are very ambitious to add to this project would be for the user to be able to post images of the animal. Another feature is for the program to allow the user to create an account so they don't have to enter some of the information every single time. In the future, once this idea is very consistent and clean, we really want to advertise this idea and spread it to local zoos and possibly zoos across the nation as well.
