Motivation

After having tried Linux myself for the first time this year I was surprised by how free it felt. I enjoyed benefits such as privacy, customization, reduced memory usage, and responsiveness.

Most importantly, I felt like I owned my computer. For the first time my operating system didn't spy on me, didn't install programs I didn't want, and didn't advertise to me.

I feel that more people would use Linux if it didn't feel so intimidating. The purpose of Linux Link is to make it easy for people to install and use Linux.

What it does

Linux Link allows a computer novice to install and use Arch Linux. It guides user through the Linux installation process, and continues providing support whenever the user may require assistance. Because Linux Link can work on a computer before it has booted the main operating system it can recover a computer from any scenario.

How we built it

Linux link consists of an esp32 bundled with Linux installation media. The esp32 connects to a phone using Bluetooth. The phone connects to a cloud AI agent to provide support to the user.

Challenges we ran into

Creating a system that could provide assistance in both pre-boot and post-boot environments.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Finding a way to send data via Bluetooth from a computer booted into installation media.
