Inspiration

We were inspired by how Omegle operates, allowing for randomized individuals to be able to meet from all over the world, but instead of being focused on a specific topic, we wanted LinkUp groupchats to be comprised of completely randomized individuals, so you have the chance of meeting and talking to someone who is your polar opposite as well as someone who might share a number of similar interests with you.

What it does

LinkUp is a chatroom webapp that helps to connect randomized individuals to eachother in groupchats in order to allow for people to form new connections with people with similar interests

How we built it

We built LinkUp using Reactjs, ChatEngine, axios

Challenges we ran into

Implementing multiplayer games that all individuals in the chat were able to play together was quite difficult, and so we scrapped our plans to make a chat system using socket.io. We instead found the ChatEngine library online, and used that to make a simple chat system. Time and tiredness was a challenge in the latter half, and we started to realize that we would run out of time before getting our project fully working , and so we didn't finish our networking feature of the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our interface, and how we could quickly adapt our project from initial ideas in order to meet deadlines. We're also proud of our resilience to keep working, knowing that our project would be far from our initial ideals.

What we learned

We have learned that integrating other Nodejs servers/clients (Socket.io) comes with a lot of things to troubleshoot. We learned so much about using React and getting things working.

What's next for LinkUp

The implementation of proper built in web games to play simultaneously with other members of a groupchat, and also the implementation of the ability to watch randomized youtube videos that would autoplay other random videos upon a video's completion.
