It all started late one night during my college application grind. I was juggling essays, scholarship searches, and university deadlines, while also trying to find a mentor who could guide me through the chaos. I browsed dozens of platforms — some too expensive, others too generic — and realized there wasn’t a single place that combined personal mentorship, student-led learning, and accessible resources in one hub.

That’s when the idea for LinkU was born — a platform where students, mentors, and educators could connect, collaborate, and grow together without financial or geographical barriers.

How I Built It

I started with a simple goal: make the user experience as easy as sending a message.

  • Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Backend: Flask (Python)
  • Core Features*:

          i) 1-on-1 mentorship matching

         ii) Student-uploaded courses & challenges

iii) Live webinars & AI-powered search

iv) Scholarship & extracurricular activities (ECA) finder

  • User Engagement: Real-time chat, notifications, and profile personalization

What I Learned

  • Designing user flows that feel natural for both students and mentors
  • Integrating AI into search for personalized recommendations
  • Building with scalability in mind from day one

Challenges I Faced

  • Time pressure: Building a full-featured platform while balancing studies and deadlines

  • Feature overload: Learning to prioritize the MVP instead of shipping everything at once

  • Mentor network: Creating an initial base of verified mentors required creativity and persistence

Looking Ahead

I'm now refining LinkU with user feedback, expanding our mentor network, and optimizing AI recommendations — aiming to make LinkU a go-to place for every student’s academic and personal growth journey.
