Inspiration

Professional networking events, while valuable, often present significant challenges. Many attendees struggle to:

  • Identify and connect with the right people in a crowded space
  • Face anxiety when initiating conversations without context
  • Maintain meaningful connections afterward

Our AR solution aims to transform this experience into a more natural, efficient, and valuable networking process.

What It Does

Our AR networking app provides four key features:

  1. Smart Mapping and Filtering
Navigate events with an intelligent system that helps you locate potential connections based on your professional interests and goals.

  2. Contextual Profile Preview
Access relevant background information about other attendees before initiating conversations, enabling more meaningful interactions.

  3. Dynamic Conversation Support
Receive subtle AR prompts displaying key talking points and shared interests during conversations, helping maintain engaging dialogue.

  4. Seamless Connection Exchange
Replace traditional business card exchanges with a simple gesture – just a handshake to establish a digital connection between participants.

Development Process

Our development followed a user-centered design approach:

  • Conducted comprehensive user research to validate the problem space
  • Created and tested paper prototypes to refine core concepts
  • Developed digital prototypes for further user testing and iteration
  • Incorporated feedback at each stage to improve the user experience

Technical Challenges

As a speculative project, we faced two primary challenges:

  1. Limited access to AR hardware for authentic testing scenarios, requiring creative solutions for prototype evaluation.
  2. The need to rely partially on users’ imagination during testing, which may have influenced feedback accuracy.

Key Achievements

  • Developed a privacy-conscious networking solution that respects user boundaries
  • Created an intuitive interface that enhances rather than disrupts natural social interactions
  • Conducted thorough user testing to validate our approach and assumptions
  • Implemented robust privacy protection measures to prevent misuse

What We Learned

Our research revealed critical insights about privacy concerns and potential platform dynamics:

  • Users expressed particular interest in maintaining control over their visible information
  • Stakeholders raised valid concerns about the potential concentration of attention on high-profile attendees, which could impact event dynamics

Future Development

Our roadmap includes:

  1. Development and testing on actual AR hardware
  2. Collaboration with event organizers and industry stakeholders for platform refinement
  3. Integration with LinkedIn and other professional networking platforms to create a seamless experience
  4. Enhancement of privacy features and crowd management algorithms
