Inspiration

At Linkd, we were inspired by the power of networks and the undeniable impact of referrals in the hiring process. Recognizing that referred applicants are 5x more likely to get hired than those who apply directly, we wanted to create a platform that leverages the strength of professional connections to help companies and job seekers find their perfect match.

What it does

Linkd is a platform that enables companies to tap into their employees' networks to source high-quality candidates for job openings. By streamlining the referral process, Linkd makes it easier for employees to recommend qualified candidates and for hiring teams to identify the best matches quickly. The platform also provides tools to track referrals and measure their success.

How we built it

We built Linkd using a combination of modern web technologies, including NextJS and a PostgreSQL Database. The platform integrates with LinkedIn's API to access professional networks and uses a machine learning algorithm to rank and match referred candidates to job openings. We also implemented a user-friendly dashboard for companies to manage referrals and track hiring progress.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we faced was ensuring creating an interface that shows data-dense information in a user-friendly way. We needed to display comprehensive profile information, match details, success metrics, and connection history while maintaining an intuitive experience across devices. Designing user flows that balanced thoroughness with simplicity was another hurdle, as we needed to create separate yet interconnected journeys for job seekers and referrers without overwhelming either group.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're incredibly proud of the user flow we've developed, successfully merging two fundamentally different journeys into one cohesive experience that serves both job seekers and referrers. What began as complex, separate pathways has been distilled into a streamlined process that reduces friction while still addressing the unique needs of each user type. By finding the perfect balance between comprehensive functionality and intuitive simplicity, we've created a platform where meaningful connections happen naturally.

What we learned

Throughout our development journey, we discovered that the most impactful connections form at the intersection of technology and human relationships. While our algorithms successfully match candidates with potential referrers, the most valuable interactions happen when our platform steps back and allows authentic professional connections to develop naturally.

We also learned that trust is the foundation of successful referrals - both candidates trusting referrers with their career aspirations and referrers trusting candidates enough to stake their reputation on them. Our platform needed to nurture this trust while remaining efficient and scalable.

What's next for Linkd

In the future, we plan to expand Linkd’s capabilities by incorporating advanced AI to provide even more accurate candidate matching and predictive analytics. We are also interested in exploring partnerships with other professional networks and HR platforms to make Linkd a universal tool for referral-based hiring. Ultimately, our goal is to revolutionize the way companies find and hire top talent by harnessing the power of networks.
