UTS Medical Services.
The Business Opportunity
There are 7.9 billion people in the world, and each and every one of them needs health care. 1.8 billion of this population is in Africa, with 206 million Nigerians. In Nigeria, only 43% of patients have access to health care, with this, The World Health Organization has then ranked Nigeria as one of the countries with the worst health care system in the world. We discovered from our research that Nigeria has a shortage of doctors and experienced specialists, with one doctor for every 40000 patients far below the WHO recommendation of one doctor to every 400 patients.
This is alarming, given the high rate at which doctors leave Nigeria for better opportunities abroad, resulting in a huge gap in the number of doctors in the country. As a result of COVID's negative impact on the economy, healthcare has become more expensive, leading to a situation where patients pay more and doctors earn less. Patients are now looking for the cheapest and most reliable form of treatment, regardless of how long they must wait in the hospital or how much coverage their health insurance provides.
Our Solution
UTS Medical Services will act as a link between Nigerian hospitals and doctors in other countries. UTS Medical Services will create a user interface through which hospitals can access a large database of doctors and book appointments for their patients with experienced specialists in other countries. We already have a few doctors from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Algeria, and other countries who are interested in our concept. This information came from a survey we conducted a while ago.
In the short term, the UTS medical services app is designed to connect licensed and experienced professionals from across the world, beginning with the United Kingdom, to partner hospitals. Later on, we hope to design a patient-to-doctor app that is user-friendly for both doctors and patients; the app is specifically designed for doctors and patients in an easy-to-use manner; the sole purpose of our unique feature was our remote patient monitoring system, which can tell patients' vitals before, during, and after consultations.
Our Target Market
We were able to determine our Total Available Market, which includes specialists from other countries and hospitals in Nigeria, as well as our Segmented Addressable Market, which includes hospitals in Nigeria that require foreign specialists and specialists in Nigeria who need to consult with patients.
To make it easier to break into the market and achieve traction, we decided to make our product a white label product.
UTS medical services' functionality is based on the java and c++ programming languages, and it includes an electronic medical records[EMR] system, which allows for the storage, capture, and sorting of all patient medical data in order to make switching medical doctors on the app easier in the event that you are dissatisfied with the treatment they have received. Because our software is user-friendly and simple to use, anyone can use it. Doctors use the RPM device that patients are given to monitor their vitals in real time before, during, and after consultations.
