Inspiration
As I started learning languages, I was very interested in trying the "comprehensible input" methods, but finding suitable content wasn't easy at the beginning; and even once found, it was hard to keep track of all of these different channels, website, podcasts as they were scattered across various platforms.
What it does
The app help users discover content that match level and / or interests in the language(s) they're interested in. It also help keeping track of new content across platforms to practice regularly.
How we built it
I built this project using Kotlin Multiplatform with Compose Multiplatform for the app, and Kotlin / Ktor with a PostgreSQL database for the back-end.
Challenges we ran into
I decided to rent a server and host the site myself, I had no prior experiences with admin sys, so this was a real challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Actually publishing the app is probably the biggest accomplishment of this journey.
What we learned
From a technical point of view, I learned a lot about back-end development as well as admin sys - but from a more "product" point of view, I learned how to prioritize various tasks to make sure the project is actually going making progress and not getting stuck on never-ending refinement of features.
What's next for LingvaSfero
Keep on completing the database of content to make sure every user can discover content no matter the language their learning and their interests.
