Inspiration

We recognized the limitations of traditional language learning methods and wanted to create an app that goes beyond vocabulary and grammar drills. We were inspired by the idea of learning languages in contexts that mimic real-life situations, enhancing the practicality of language acquisition.

What it does

The Linguify app introduces an innovative approach to language learning. It uses advanced AI and machine learning technologies to simulate real-world interactions for improved language proficiency. From interactive conversations in coffee shops and schools to an image translator using object detection, the app enhances speaking, reading, hearing, and writing skills. Users receive feedback on pronunciation and can even dub videos in their chosen language. Comprehensive units cover language and culture, while an immersive simulation game tests learned skills in practical scenarios.

How we built it

To build the prototype for our app, we used Figma. After deciding the features, we split them up between us so that we could each focus on designing different parts of the app. To create a user-friendly UI design we tested out different combinations of colors, buttons, and other elements until we were satisfied. We then had to give the prototype clickable links and figure out how a user would transition from and to each page. These actions contributed to the building of our revolutionary prototype that mirrors our vision for an engaging and user-oriented language learning platform.

Challenges we ran into

Although we had a foundation for the problem we wanted to solve, one of our biggest challenges for this ideathon was coming up with innovative, unique ideas that implement the newest technologies for best results. After further research and consideration of many different solutions, we chose to incorporate features that utilize AI and Machine Learning to best personalize the user’s experience and tailor learning strategies to fit their needs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This being our first time using Figma, we’re proud of how our design turned out. After watching a few tutorials and exploring on our own for a bit, we were able to figure out how to design an interface that would optimize the user experience.

What we learned

In addition to learning how to use Figma for the first time, as previously mentioned, our team also learned about the various methods currently used in language-learning, including quizzes, exercises, gamification, and more. We further researched these features in an attempt to come up with alternate, unique ways to teach languages in a more efficient way, which is how we finally came to the conclusion of using AI and Machine Learning.

What's next for Linguify

With the basic foundation and design for an app, our next step for Linguify is to turn it into an actual app using code. Once we do this, we would try to get user feedback, specifically from our target audience of people trying to learn a new language, then implement feedback and hopefully publish it for the world to use.
