Inspiration

Inspiration As children of immigrant parents and members of immigrant communities, both my partner and I have witnessed firsthand how language barriers can limit opportunities. Our families and communities often struggled to navigate job markets, interviews, and professional environments due to challenges with language. We recognized that these barriers not only affect career growth but also impact confidence and personal development. LinguaPrepAI was created with the goal of breaking down these barriers, providing migrants with the tools to confidently prepare for job interviews in non-native languages.

What it does

LinguaPrepAI is an AI-powered platform designed to help migrants prepare for job interviews in non-native languages. Using OpenAI Whisper for accurate speech-to-text transcription and DeepL for translation, the platform currently supports english interview prep for Spanish native speakers. Users can track their learning on the calendar and watch their progress grow. LinguaPrepAI helps users build confidence and improve their communication skills, giving them the tools they need to succeed in professional interviews, no matter their language background.

How we built it

We built LinguaPrepAI to help users prepare for interviews by offering personalized feedback on pronunciation, fluency, and interview responses. The platform uses React for the front-end, FastAPI for server-side processing, and OpenAI Whisper for accurate transcription of voice inputs. DeepL was integrated for seamless translation between languages to ensure users could practice and get feedback in their native language. The platform is designed to be intuitive and easy to use, with the goal of making language practice accessible and effective.

Challenges we ran into

Microphone Setup for User Input: Configuring the microphone to accurately capture user responses in various environments was a significant hurdle. Ensuring high-quality audio capture for accurate transcription and feedback took time to fine-tune.

LinguaPrepAI is more than just a tool—it’s an empowering platform for migrants looking to break into new career opportunities. By helping users improve their language skills, pronunciation, and confidence in interviews, we’re giving them the chance to succeed in a competitive job market. As immigrants ourselves, we understand how valuable resources like these can be in overcoming language barriers. LinguaPrepAI aims to level the playing field, providing all users—regardless of their language background—with the confidence to excel in job interviews and beyond.

What we learned

Building LinguaPrepAI required us to learn and work with several powerful technologies. We used React to create a smooth and interactive front-end experience, and Python's FastAPI for backend logic. For speech-to-text conversion, we leveraged OpenAI Whisper, allowing real-time transcription of user responses. Additionally, we integrated DeepL for translation, enabling multilingual support and ensuring that users could practice and receive feedback in different languages. These tools helped us create a comprehensive platform that blends AI and natural language processing to help migrants overcome language barriers.

What's next for LinguaPrepAI

Language Expansion: Our first priority is to add support for more languages, allowing us to reach an even broader audience and support users from diverse linguistic backgrounds. This will ensure that more migrants can benefit from the platform's tools, regardless of the language they speak.

Assessments and Feedback: We plan to introduce assessments to give users a more structured way to track their progress. These assessments will evaluate their language skills, interview responses, and pronunciation, providing detailed feedback on areas that need improvement.

Resume Building: Another key feature we’re working on is helping users build their resumes. We’ll provide tools and guidance for creating professional resumes tailored to the job market, giving users an edge when applying for jobs.
