Inspiration
College students often struggle to find important information buried in PDFs, such as examination rules, hostel policies, placement guidelines, and academic documents. Finding the right information manually takes time, especially when students have to search through multiple documents.
We built SmartDocs AI to make document management easier and create a foundation for helping users access important information from their documents in a more organized way.
What it does
SmartDocs AI is a web-based document management application that allows users to securely sign in, upload PDF documents, and manage their personal document library.
Users can upload documents, view their uploaded files, browse their document collection, and delete documents when they are no longer needed. The application uses Supabase for authentication and document data storage.
The goal is to simplify document organization and provide a foundation for AI-powered document question answering.
How we built it
Frontend: Built the user interface using React, TypeScript, and Vite.
Styling: Used Tailwind CSS to create a clean, responsive interface.
Authentication: Integrated Supabase Authentication for user sign-in and sign-out.
Document management: Implemented PDF upload, document listing, viewing, and deletion features.
Backend and storage: Used Supabase for authentication and document-related data storage.
Future AI capabilities: The project can be extended with document text extraction, semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI-generated answers with source citations.
Challenges we ran into
Authentication and permissions: Configuring Supabase authentication and database access policies.
PDF processing: Handling uploaded files and ensuring document information is stored and retrieved correctly.
Database integration: Managing document records and their relationship with authenticated users.
User experience: Designing a simple interface for uploading and organizing documents.
