Inspiration
Learning Chinese is often split across flashcards, dictionaries, videos, and difficult articles. We wanted reading itself to become the center of learning.
What it does
LingoHan helps learners read graded Chinese content with pinyin, native-language explanations, audio, tap-to-define vocabulary, and short follow-up practice.
How we built it
We built LingoHan with Next.js, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and a structured content pipeline for Chinese lessons, vocabulary, audio, and progress.
Challenges we ran into
The challenge was making practice support reading instead of interrupting it. We also needed to preserve progress across reloads, sign-in, and unfinished lessons.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a complete reading-to-practice flow and added lesson resume support, so learners can return to their reading position, quiz answers, and confirmed vocabulary matches.
What we learned
Language learning works better when tools stay close to the original text. Small, contextual support is more useful than forcing learners through disconnected tasks.
What's next for LingoHan
We will improve content quality, add more graded lessons and audio, strengthen personalized review, and continue refining the reading experience.
