Inspiration
Language learning can feel overwhelming, rigid, and time-consuming. LingoFlow was created to make daily language practice more focused, interactive, and engaging by helping learners master the vocabulary they choose, one step at a time.
What it does
LingoFlow is an AI-powered language-learning application designed for structured daily practice. Users select vocabulary they want to master, and Gemini AI helps generate word meanings, example sentences, grammatical forms, tenses, and contextual learning content.
The application also supports sentence writing with AI-assisted feedback and speech-based practice. To support long-term vocabulary retention, LingoFlow uses an independent, custom Spaced Repetition System (SRS) algorithm to manage review scheduling without relying on AI for every review decision.
How we built it
LingoFlow was built with Lovable and integrates multiple AI services into a unified learning experience.
Its speech-transcription pipeline uses NVIDIA NIM as the primary provider, with Gemini configured as a fallback when the primary service encounters supported failures. Gemini also powers language-content generation and grammar-related feedback.
This hybrid architecture combines NVIDIA-powered speech processing, AI-assisted language learning, and a separate SRS algorithm for vocabulary review. The application also features custom typography, including Plus Jakarta Sans and IBM Plex Sans Arabic, to support a consistent interface across Latin and Arabic scripts, alongside cloud infrastructure for authentication and data persistence.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was handling inconsistent AI responses, API latency, and edge cases during vocabulary-content generation. Integrating speech processing required particular attention to provider reliability, fallback handling, and the distinction between technical failures and genuine learner mistakes.
We addressed these challenges through iterative development, prompt refinement, testing, and improved error handling to make the learning experience more resilient.
What we learned
Building LingoFlow showed us how AI-assisted development and multi-model integration can bring a practical language-learning concept to life. We learned that creating a useful AI-powered product requires more than connecting models: it also requires thoughtful system design, reliable data handling, and careful coordination between AI services and deterministic application logic.
What's next for LingoFlow
Our next steps include expanding language support, refining interactive exercises, improving the reliability of vocabulary generation, and developing richer pronunciation feedback and learning analytics to support a more personalized language-learning experience.
