Inspiration
Personal finance can be scary and overwhelming, especially in this day and age. Some people say they are so afraid of personal finance that they do not look at their bank account out of fear. They feel powerless to achieve their money goals. We want to change that for others. So, we created a user-friendly, fun, and free tool, Limoneta, that empowers users to track their spending and saving. Because of the popularity and general success of the 50-30-20 Rule, we implemented that as Limoneta's suggested savings guideline. With the power of personalized dashboards, CapitolOne API integration, and a clean, bold UI/UX design, Limoneta can help others achieve their financial goals and no longer fear their own bank account.
What it does
When a user first signs up with Limoneta, they give their monthly income, monthly rent, and goal. This data allows the personal dashboard to be generated. As a user manually inputs their spending, they can visually track their spending and saving progress with our 50-30-20 Rule interactive progress bars. Based on their current progress, a status message will appear at the bottom, indicating whether or not the user is on track. Having users manually input their spending and visualizing the effect of their spending will improve mindfulness and accountability.
How we built it
This web application was created using Javascript, CSS, and HTML. We also integrated the CapitolOne API to create sample customer profiles to test the usability of Limoneta.
Challenges we ran into
We had so many ideas for Limoneta, that it was difficult to narrow down on what we actually were going to accomplish during the time constraints of the hackathon. After many discussions, we were able to figure out the essential features and finish the current version we have now.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of integrating the CaptiolOne API, our brand design, and our interactive visuals included in the dashboard.
What we learned
We learned how to efficiently take an idea and turn it into reality. This was accomplished through effective collaboration and time/task management. We also learned about the CapitolOne API by creating an account and creating customer profiles, merchant profiles, and transactions.
What's next for Limoneta
We hope to create a mobile application version of Limoneta in the future. The idea is that you can access Limoneta on the web application and the mobile application seamlessly. We also hope to incorporate game-ification by implementing a streak feature (each day the user uses the app, their streak increases). This will further incentivize users to log on to the application. We also want to create a visualization that shows the user's savings history.
