Inspiration

A torn ankle ligament changed how our teammate Sashwath experienced travel. He couldn’t walk and needed wheelchair assistance and rebooking. He still wanted to explore, but the journey now required arrangements he hadn’t needed before.

That experience raised a question: why should a change in someone’s needs make travel so difficult to plan?

For instance, for a wheelchair user, an accessible entrance is only part of the picture. Slopes, distances, restrooms, and assistance can determine whether a day is manageable. For someone who is Deaf or hard of hearing, captions and written information can shape whether they can fully enjoy an experience.

This affects millions of travelers. The World Health Organization estimates that 1.3 billion people, approximately one in six globally, experience significant disability. The CDC reports that 28.7% of U.S. adults reported a disability in 2022.

We created Limitless to help people plan around their needs while keeping the excitement of travel at the center.

Your world to discover. Your right to explore.

Why credible data matters

  • An accessible entrance says little about slopes, restrooms, transfers, or assistance.
  • General AI helps research trips. Booking platforms help reserve them. Travelers still need to establish whether each experience fits.
  • Accessibility specialists already offer verified information and support. Our focus combines curated data, personal fit, and during-trip adaptation.

What it does

  • 24/7 support: an always available AI travel agent that seamlessly escalates to human assistance when it cannot find sufficient or reliable information.
  • Personalized itineraries: accessibility needs, interests, stamina, sensory preferences, and pace.
  • Accessibility Score: how well a location fits the traveler.
  • Verification Score: confidence in its accessibility information.
  • Live adjustments: adapt to fatigue or changing circumstances while preserving completed stops and commitments.

How we get and maintain data

  • Official sources: venue websites and government records.
  • Contributions: venue forms, supporting photos, and traveler issue reports.
  • Human verification: ongoing reviews of selected places, prioritizing outdated information and conflicting claims.
  • Controlled updates: reports create review tasks rather than instantly changing trusted information.
  • Future AI layer: a second check to flag inconsistencies and changes.
  • Humans remain the foundation of our service pyramid: reviewing locations and helping travelers when automation is insufficient.

How we built it

  • Frontend: Next.js and TypeScript.
  • Backend: FastAPI, Python, and Supabase/Postgres.
  • Planning: structured requirement checks alongside language models.
  • Prototype: 80 entries supplemented by official-source research

Challenges, accomplishments, and lessons

  • Challenge: the same location can suit one traveler and create barriers for another.
  • Accomplishment: connecting adaptive intake, destination research, and itinerary changes around individual needs, while integrating a 24/7 AI travel agent with human-in-the-loop support when AI assistance falls short.
  • Lesson: maintaining credible information matters as much as collecting it. Missing information must stay unknown.

How we scale

  • Year 1: curated San Diego beaches, restaurants, and attractions.
  • Year 2: selected California cities with trained local reviewers.
  • Year 3: West Coast expansion as demand and operating capacity grow.
  • Focused coverage: begin with selected places in each category, then expand as review capacity increases.
  • Human support: grow staffed coverage toward our 24/7 service goal.

Market and revenue

  • Nearly $50 billion: U.S. disability travel spending over two years. Open Doors Organization, 2024 study
  • Planned revenue: traveler fees, venue listing fees or booking commissions, partnerships, and advertising.
  • Business discipline: revenue must cover data review, support, and technology costs.
  • Commercial payments never influence either score.
