Inspiration
I have always been someone to criticize others. Its something I have always believed ever since I was young, but even more nowadays. However, I criticize others when I agree. Especially, when I agree with them since only that way can fully construct a rational plane of thought, with all necessary viewpoints. This criticality has however led me to notice that nowadays a lot of News coverage has turned into rage bait, against commonly disliked groups or figures. I wish to change this.
What it does
This chrome addon/feature will highlight words in articles which hold specific connotations, that are potentially being used to influence the reader. One example being if the heading of an article states things such as "barbaric actions ...", "appalling display of ..." etc. All of these phrases indicate personal views but not what has actually happened (straying from a factual re-telling of the events) and influence the reader by inciting violent imagery and festering hate in the readers mind. In a sense the writers don't even want the reader to think for themselves.
These words take away the freedom of thought from the reader implanting them with emotions that the writer intended to gain even more attention. However, with an AI language model it would be possible to highlight such phrases and bring it to the readers attention with small bars indicating the subject of the sentence, whether the phrase has a positive or negative connotation.
Furthermore, emphasis should be put on "alleged" claims and "accusations" through colour coding and small text bubbles, to let the reader know that these are not hard bound facts but instead arguments without a complete foundation. In fact, the add-on could make a list of all the claims made on that website, and below a list of allegations and claims, with links to other websites with similar info (for cross-checking purposes). These could be displayed in a small side panel.
This add-on could also be used for educational purposes allowing students to learn how they can get influenced online in a subtle manner, by playing to their emotions.
