LIMIT

LIMIT is a device app for smartwatches to measure and plan the intensity of a workout in real time. It is built on Zepp OS as a Mini Program for smartwatches running Zepp OS v2.0.

Problem

Exercise intensity is the biggest factor to consider for determining the goal/purpose of exercise (e.g. low intensity for rehabilitation, high intensity for anaerobic training). However, there is currently no smartwatch app right now that is able to measure exercise intensity for real-time feedback for smartwatch users. Users will have to use the heart rate monitor to get an estimate of the intensity of their workout which is:

  • Inaccurate - %HRmax is commonly used as an estimate which requires the HRmax which is usually calculated from online formulas that is meant as only a guideline for the general population and not the actual HRmax of the user
  • Cumbersome - extremely difficult to do in an exercise setting with only your smartwatch and having to perform the mental calculations or remember the %HRmax levels while trying to focus on the workout

Solution

Using the heart rate and blood oxygen sensors on the smartwatch, LIMIT displays:

  • Current exercise intensity from 0 - 100
  • Current exercise intensity in a speedometer layout with the 5 heart rate zones for easy visualisation
  • %HRmax
  • Blood oxygen saturation

These metrics will be initially calculated based upon formulas for the demographic of the user and will be subsequently fine-tuned to the actual user as more data is collected during exercise.
