Inspiration

This was a game we played in maths lessons at school, it's surprisingly hard to know what the best strategy should be for such a simple game. I had originally built it for the web a couple of years ago, but Reddit allows certain features to be integrated much more simply, such as ensuring each player can only make one guess(using usernames) and also making a new game every day(by posting daily). I also felt a lot of Reddit games were just copies of things that already worked well, and I wanted to try and bring something unique.

What it does

At midnight UTC, a post is made marking the start of the day's game. Users can submit one positive integer, once the game is over, the form closes and the post changes to show the distribution of guesses and also the winner, which is the person who guessed the lowest number not chosen by anyone else that game.

How we built it

I used Claude to essentially copy my previous project such that it would work with Devvit.

Challenges we ran into

Surprisingly few, trying to figure out how best to display guesses and making sure everything fit on one page.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting over 500 players and seeing how people's guesses changed the next day after responding to the results from that game!

What we learned

Devvit makes it easy to recreate web games on Reddit, and it is very convenient having all these games in one place. Also Claude is very good and requires little input.

What's next for limbo

Trying to figure out how to get it to the right audience, I'm sure there are people who find the game theory aspect of this interesting and would want to play it every day alongside their other daily puzzles.
