We wanted to make Alexa rap. So we made Lil' Botty
What it does
We used lyrics generated by a machine learning algorithm and parsed them in a way such that Alexa dictated them with as much rhythm as possible.
How we built it
We used alexa skills kit and the dopelearning API.
Challenges we ran into
We spent a lot of time building framework that we never got to use. We spent hours trying to generate lists of words that would rhyme and plug them into a template madlibs style. This ended up being unusable because the words API was missing a lot of information, and a lot of the lyrics we imported were not recognized.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The fact that we got an Alexa skill up and running was pretty cool. None of us have ever made an alexa skill before. Ultimately this project was a triumph because we feel that even though the lyrics were automatically generated, we still got to use our artistic talent to make Alexa sound stylized.
What we learned
We learned a lot about building data tables in python, even if we didn't get to use them for anything.
What's next for Lil' Botty
See you at the concert.
