Inspiration

Art is a means of communicating what words cannot. We wanted to create a space that interacts with the user to stimulate feeling from color and light. We also wanted to send a larger message using art. In a world where we are constantly seeking stimulation, it is important to step away from it all and take a moment.

Our Space

Our space does just that. It is a 80/20 cube filled with lights that react to touch and rotation. The lights are placed in several different "lamps" designed to display the neopixels in a soft, colorful way. Everything other than the lights is very neutral, letting you focus solely on the color. Lamps are also made completely of recycled materials.

The Journey

As creative individuals, we found that it was hard to stick to one idea. We pivoted a lot, but eventually landed on an idea with enough technical depth, creativity, and purpose.

Mechancial System

The mechanical system is composed of a 8' x 6' x 7' 80/20 structure and lamps made of steel wire, fiber fill, and bubble wrap.

Electrical and Software System

The electrical system is composed of 3 arduinos that use sensors to control 20 different LED strips. The ultrasonic distance sensor allows a lamp to change color as someone approaches. The IMU allows the LEDs to react to spining lamps.
