Inspiration
We wanted to create a way for people to stay connected to their loved ones when they are separated from each other.
What it does
This device consists of two lamps with ultrasonic sensors and photoresistors that "talk" to each other through the IoT Cloud. Gesturing near the ultrasonic sensor turns the LEDs on the other lamp red, and touching the photoresistor (blocking the light) turns the LEDs on the other lamp green. Doing both actions causes the servo motor, which has a heart symbol attached, on the other lamp to turn, and its LEDs to stay green.
How we built it
We used Arduino, ultrasonic sensors, photoresistors, multicolor LEDs, and the IoT Cloud to build this project. We also used SolidWorks to create CAD files for the box and sliding lid.
Challenges we ran into
The IoT Cloud was difficult to work with at first, and our devices were having trouble connecting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our small and compact design that fits nicely into our box.
What we learned
We learned how to sync variables on the IoT Cloud and program our Arduinos to interact.
What's next for LightLink
In the future, we'd like to make an app for the user to interact with that would let them customize the RGB color of the LEDs and also create their own flashing patterns.
