Inspiration
We used our experiences as women who have been through uncomfortable situations to create an app that we needed in those particular situations. We were inspired by our need for a safety assistance tool.
What it does
A safety assistance app disguised as a food delivery app. Some of the functions involve calling the police with the click of a button, sending an SOS message to an emergency contact, receiving a a fake excuse to get out of uncomfortable situations. We incorporated a chatbot that is designed to calm the user down with words of affirmation.
How we built it
We built Wix and incorporating twilio API's into it. We used Javascript for the backend code.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled to connect front end and back end as first time hackers and freshman. We had trouble learning a new programming language within a few hours.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to create an app that serves as a safety assistance tool and accomplishes the task of being a support tool for people. It is an app that we wished we had but we are glad to be there for people using this app.
What we learned
We learnt how to use new programming languages like Javascript, HTML and Python. We learnt how to incorporate API's for the first time in our coding career.
What's next for Lighthouse
We hope to incorporate safety assistance tools like calling an Uber with the press of a button, adding an interactive voice controlled chatbot, sending live locations to emergency contacts.
