We like pretty colors

What it does

Converts strings into binary data. Then it procedures to flash colors corresponding to the ones and zeros. A light sensor reads the colors and interprets it back into its binary form. The binary can then be converted back into a string.

How we built it

Arduino and AdaFruit LightSensor - intercepting and interpreting the light signals

GitHub Pages, HTML, CSS, JavaScript - to create a webapp to convert strings -> binary -> the pretty colors

Challenges we ran into

  • Various Micro-controllers with poor documentation
  • Driver issues with the micro-controllers

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Our first hardware hack
  • It's pretty neat

What we learned

  • 3D printing
  • Soldering
  • Programming with Micro-controllers and sensors

What's next for LightCode

We could take the concept and work with lasers and a more accurate method of transferring data from long distances
