Inspiration

Lightbox was inspired by the rising demand for integrated and practical productivity tools which are of the people for the people. We wanted to build something ideal built upon correcting our own dissatisfactions with the leading softwares; something we could achieve genuine enhanced productivity when using. Lightbox is not only an alternative to the leading options, but it is also a combination of our favorite features with an absence of those we find problematic. Through the opportunity we were given by Hack Your Life Hackathon, we chose to take inspiration from our own longing for productivity and infuse within it all of the tools which we use during an entire process, uniting all mediums of work into one.

What it does

Lightbox acts as an all in one planner, organizer, and operational manager for all manner of projects. The software is operated both manually and through the use of our integrated AI manager. This AI-powered manager is the highlight of our model, as it can manipulate and change any data, projects, or files stored within the software. This shortcut turns voice-control into direct action, with the option to bypass any step in between. Instead of making a project for a folder for an assignment for a priority, you can establish and control all of these factors using a one sentence command in the AI chat. Otherwise, Lightbox is a complete planner and actor which stores, edits, and organizes productivity operations like many others, but with nuanced convenience and accessibility.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

The most pressing challenge we encountered whilst building the software was found in converting speech to text and then to action for the AI-powered organizer. During the early stages of the product, the AI speech-sensitive action engine rarely understood the intended action of the speaker. Through hours of meticulous testing, we optimized the software to understand certain unavoidable keywords, phrases, and verbal combinations which would motivate it to create and change action requests. This testing was the only ethical and original way to ensure our project reflected our own creativity and intended functionality.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our most pressing challenge also happens to be out most proud accomplishment when conquered. We have concluded the project with a consistently flaw-free speech-to-text-to-action system which understands our intended operations and needs. The current model can effectively understand and request action upon the conclusion of meeting calls and online chats to draw our software full circle.

What we learned

Through our difficulties and eventual victory over them, we learned that trial and error is a crucial aspect of self-led creation and prototyping. On multiple occasions, our group was forced to spend extra time perfecting certain elements of the software (such as chat) which could ensure that the entire software could be completely unique and effectively functionable. This success taught us of the importance of driven efforts to understand failure before chasing success.

What's next for Lightbox

Lightbox has become a software sufficient enough for us to practically use for our own schoolwork and private lives in organizing our own work and that of others. It has the complete potential to assist us in managing our busy high school lives and could even act as a startup inspiration for even more pioneering and accurate adaptations which could extend beyond the grassroots of mere coding to the professional settings of a startup software.
