Inspiration
Burnout isn’t a buzzword for me; It was a daily reality.
I am running two live service browser FPS games, freelancing, writing a memoir, and trying to be present for my wife and 3 kids. I felt like I was giving up on my dreams, trying to be "realistic"/"responsible" about what I could actually accomplish. I have to check emails, use project management tools, update projects, community management, etc;
I tried productivity software, jira, trello, etc and while great at mapping individual projects, still just added 1 more thing to think of managing each day PLUS zero emotional payoff. They were mostly designed for programmers and tech - but they had the basic idea; I thought, what If I could take what I liked from these but map my life instead.
I needed something simple that would turn anxiety/depression into action, so I built the planner I couldn’t find. Lifify, a tool some may call a productivity planner but I call a life mapper - as it was designed with 1 goal and 1 goal only - simplify life.
I now have tasks on my Lifify telling me to go update Jira. 😅
What it does
Maps your mind: Borrowed from tech, Drag-and-drop Kanban boards let's you capture raw ideas, then convert them into goals, tasks, and subtasks.
Schedules your week: Optionally map your tasks into a 24-hour timetable; Track focused work, rest, and real life in one place and see conflicts - if any;
Rewards momentum: Borrowed from my game dev experience; A built-in reward engine lets you setup reward pools which lets you receive lootbox style rewards for completing tasks or goals.
Archiving moves finished goals into custom vaults so today stays uncluttered.
Security: Optional cloud storage – LocalStorage plus one-click export/import means you can map your life without thought of who's looking - its your life afterall.
How we built it
- Built primary using bolt.new, a powerful piece of software; My experience in programming, UI/UX of course was essential in mapping out what I was trying to do.
- My wife and kids also played a role, meeting their usage expectations was crucial in driving its simplicity and my epic goal of trying make her library of physical planners obsolete, helped;
Challenges we ran into
- A lot of time was spent brainstorming how to map one's life in a way that immediately results in "I got this" once you see it, easier said than done.
- Decision fatigue: Balancing my “power user” flexibility with the simplicity my burned-out self craved.
- Motivation design – Gamifying productivity without going overboard was crucial.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- The concept and idea itself started as a dream but bolt.new proves that AI usage is severely mis-understood. I would never be able to put together somethign like this in such a short period of time. As a game dev, naturally, I have some understanding of programming, web dev, etc. Bolt.new really filled in the gaps, allowing me to focus on what mattered most: DESIGN and UX; If only I had such a tool for game dev - I also tried other AI app builders, they all flopped.
What we learned
Build the tool you need, and you’ll likely solve a need for others too.
What's next for Lifify - Simplify Your Life
- Energy tagging – Mark tasks as draining or energizing and visualize weekly energy balance.
- Make physical planners obsolete 😈
- AI voice recognition: Narrating goals and tasks and hearing rewards fire off sounds epic.
- Syncing with third party tools like google calendar and notification services;
