LifeVest is an investment app with global events affecting tickers and local events affecting only you. Compete with your friends to see who comes out the richest.

Inspiration

We see the barrier to investing as a lack of literacy in how it works. Through this simplified game version of the markets we try to help teach people simple concepts about when buying and selling is a good idea.

What it does

LifeVest is an app that allows you to learn how to invest by creating a real time simulation of a stock market, where your and other users can all buy and sell stocks simultaneously. Global and personal events will also affect your personal finances and the trends of the market. Once you're satisfied with your portfolio, it will be reviewed by AI to tell you how good your strategy was!

How we built it

The app was built using next.js and react on the front end, with a pocketbase server on the backend. All the AI interactions in the app are powered by Gemini.

Challenges we ran into

Pocketbase was a new technology for most of our team and we ran into some challenges integrating it seamlessly with node.js, and making sure we could access our database both in the client and during server side rendering. We also accidentally hit the API limit for one of our Gemini keys.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first hackathon where we implemented actual authentication, rather than storing plaintext passwords.

AI DISCLOSURES:

OpenAI Models and Claude were used for debugging the main simulation file and subscription logic within our code. The majority of code was still human-made and all code was human reviewed.
