🎮 Inspiration
Staying consistent, motivated, and on track with goals is something we all struggle with - yet we’ll easily spend hours leveling up characters in games.
So we asked ourselves: what if your life could feel like that?
LifeScore was born from this idea - inspired by the Octalysis Framework - to turn self-improvement into a fun, visual, and social experience. Not just another habit tracker, but a full life dashboard that rewards you for becoming who you want to be.
🚀 What It Does
LifeScore gamifies self-growth through a system of points, progress, and play.
- 🧠 Answer onboarding questions to generate your unique LifeScore and see your place on the global leaderboard
- 📊 Explore analytics to understand where you stand in the world based on habits, skills, and goals
- 🔁 Track your habits, goals, and learning paths with Habit Rings, check-ins, and growth streaks
- 🏅 Earn XP and unlock badges - then proudly display them on your profile
- 👥 See what others are doing through the Feed, and connect with friends
- 🌍 Compete and grow alongside your city, your friends, and the whole world — in a healthy, inspiring way
It’s a multiplayer experience for leveling up in real life.
🛠 How We Built It
Built 100% on Bolt.new
- Frontend: React + Vite
- Styling: Tailwind CSS (utility-first)
- Routing: React Router DOM
- Forms: React Hook Form
- Animations: Framer Motion
- Icons: Lucide React
- Backend: Firebase (Authentication + Firestore)
🧠 Challenges We Ran Into
Our toughest challenge wasn’t technical - it was emotional design.
How do you build leaderboards and social feedback without causing anxiety or toxic comparison?
Originally, we had a highly competitive global ranking system. But we quickly realized this could work against our core mission: building personal momentum, not pressure. So we reimagined the leaderboard as a "Journey with Others" - focusing on shared growth, not just who's #1.
This shift shaped the entire product tone, and taught us to design for motivation, not metrics.
🏅 Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Launched a fully working MVP in less than a month
- Built a real-time LifeScore system that quantifies user progress
- Developed habit rings, XP-based quests, and a social leaderboard
- Balanced fun, feedback, and function into one cohesive experience
📚 What We Learned
- Gamification works - but must be grounded in empathy
- First-time experience is everything. Onboarding needs to feel magical
- Social features must inspire, not pressure
- Feedback loops and simplicity are key to retention
🔮 What’s Next for LifeScore
- ✅ Introduce Life Missions, daily/weekly quests
- ✅ Connect to external apps like Duolingo, Chess.com, and TikTok to gain more XP points
- ✅ Launch mobile-responsive version
- ✅ Add more social dynamics – reactions, shared missions, streak battles
- ✅ Run seasonal competitions and global theme events
- ✅ Add profile-based rewards and customizable avatars
- ✅ Introduce Seeding system:
Friends can seed each other's goals to validate or boost LifeScore points.
If users want to seed their own goals, they’ll need to purchase Seed Points — making self-seeding a premium, intentional action.
This adds credibility to achievements and encourages community-driven approval.
We're turning LifeScore into the ultimate Life RPG — where your goals, habits, and progress are all part of one big multiplayer journey.
Your life, your rules. Your growth, your game.
