Inspiration
Many young people finish school without learning how to manage their money. We noticed even adults make mistakes with saving, spending, and planning their finances. This inspired us to create a game that makes understanding money easy and fun for kids. We wanted every child to have the chance to learn good money habits early in life.
What it does
Our project is a game that helps children learn about money through stories. Kids choose a character, get a life scenario—like earning their first allowance or saving for a bike—and make choices along the way. The game shows them what happens based on their decisions, explains their results, and gives tips to get better. There's also a friendly chatbot for kids to ask questions about money, like how to save or the difference between needs and wants.
How we built it
We built the platform as a simple website using React and Next.js. The game uses AI to create stories and voice narration. For money decisions, we added pretend payments using Stripe in test mode, so kids learn about transaction safety and limits without any real risk. We kept the design playful, with colorful cards and instant feedback, so kids stay interested and understand each step.
Challenges we ran into
Making sure each story fits a kid’s age and is easy to follow. Keeping the lessons useful, but not too hard or boring. Making the AI fast enough to run the game smoothly. Designing pretend payment events that teach real skills safely.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a working demo in a short time. Making learning about money feel like an adventure, not a lecture. Using AI to let each child have their own unique game, every time they play. Helping children speak directly to friendly financial mentors.
What we learned
Kids learn best by doing, not just listening. Turning lessons into stories and choices helped make money topics less scary. Making a kid-friendly platform also taught us about safety, privacy, and how parents want to help too. We found that simple feedback and encouragement go a long way in teaching new things.
What's next for LifePath
Add more stories and characters for different age groups. Let kids write and share their own money stories. Make tools for parents and teachers to follow along and help. Build in rewards and badges for finishing lessons. Open the platform to schools and community programs everywhere.
