Lifely: Living Life Fully with Care
Inspiration
We were motivated by the challenges elderly people face with daily tasks, medication reminders, and loneliness. Since families often live apart, seniors may not have immediate support when they need it most. This drove us to create Lifely, a caring platform that blends technology with empathy to make life safer, easier, and more fulfilling for older adults.
What it does
Lifely is a web app designed to support seniors by offering:
- Medication and appointment reminders
- Emergency SOS alerts that notify family or caregivers instantly
- Health tracking for vital signs and wellness records
- AI-powered companion chat to help reduce loneliness
- Multi-language support for inclusivity
How we built it
Frontend: Built with html,css and javascript for accessibility, featuring large fonts, simple navigation, and a voice-friendly user interface.
Backend: Developed using Flask (Python) with a SQLite database to manage user data and reminders.
APIs: Integrated messaging APIs for emergency alerts through SMS and WhatsApp.
Deployment: Hosted the frontend on Netlify and the backend on Heroku or Render.
Challenges we encountered
We aimed to design an interface that is friendly for the elderly while remaining modern.
We also sought to build a reliable real-time SOS system.
Managing multi-language support presented challenges as well, as did collecting meaningful feedback from seniors who aren't tech-savvy.
Accomplishments we're proud of
We built a functional prototype within a limited timeframe.
We created a clean, accessible UI that elderly users found easy to navigate.
We successfully integrated an emergency SOS feature.
We received positive feedback from testers who valued the AI companion chat.
What we learned
We learned the importance of designing from an empathy-driven perspective in technology.
We gained technical skills in API integration, authentication, and cross-platform web development.
Accessibility is essential, not optional.
We found that balancing simplicity with functionality is one of the most challenging yet rewarding aspects of design.
What's next for Lifely: Living Life Fully with Care
We plan to integrate with wearables for real-time health monitoring.
We will add video call features for connecting with doctors and family members.
We aim to expand AI companion capabilities to remember preferences and offer personalized care.
We are looking to partner with healthcare providers and NGOs to extend real-world support.
We hope to scale Lifely to support more languages and regions around the world.
