Inspiration
Most messaging apps organize an inbox full of conversations. lifelong is built around one relationship that continues over time. Its focus is the feeling of being together, the rituals that keep a connection alive, and the memories that would otherwise disappear into a chat history.
What it does
A six-character pairing code and hold-to-bond interaction bring two phones together. Partners can exchange text, photos, videos, view-once media, voice notes with transcription, neon drawings and live hearts. Voice and video calls use the familiar iPhone calling experience.
Shared everyday life
Daily questions, Home Screen notes, shared memories and albums make room for small moments. Optional location and weather, multiple rooms, scheduled notes, gifts, quizzes, dice and a make-up flow offer other ways to connect. Our Pact gives the pair a place to express their agreements.
Tơ
Tơ is an on-device AI companion invoked only when both partners consent. It responds when asked; it does not proactively listen to the relationship. Its role is to support reflection and conversation.
How it is built
The native iPhone app uses SwiftUI, local persistence, paired messaging and media flows, CallKit integration and widgets. On-device Apple Intelligence supports Tơ on compatible devices. New messages, captions and attachments use end-to-end encryption.
Challenges
A two-person product has to make pairing, shared access and consent clear to both people. Rich chat interactions also need to feel like part of one conversation rather than a collection of separate tools.
Accomplishments
The app brings communication, shared rituals, memories and optional on-device assistance into a single pair-centered experience. Data export and unpair-and-erase controls give people a way to leave with understandable choices.
Learning
Small interactions can carry emotional meaning when they belong to a shared context. The hold-to-bond gesture, a note on the other person’s Home Screen and a saved memory all reinforce the same two-person structure.
Next steps
The next priority is reliability testing with real paired phones, especially media, calls, consent changes, shared entitlement and recovery from interrupted connections.
Business model
One monthly or yearly subscription covers both phones, with a three-day trial for eligible users.
