Inspiration
Our main inspiration was the many negative experiences we've had while looking for immediate care for our pets or loved ones. Often, we've found ourselves waiting hours at one urgent care, when there were many other urgent cares in our area that had no wait time. Hence, we decided to create this app to save time and make accessing healthcare easier.
What it does
Our app, LifeLink, is designed to provide information about urgent care facilities in a certain radius and has up-to-date wait times. It also provides navigational services to these facilities, and also has customizable settings and filters to make the app as user friendly as possible.
How we built it
We built it using web design and the Google Maps API. We used Flask, software for web applications, to create LifeLink itself. For our navigation feature, we used the API, and integrated it.
Challenges we ran into
Because we are not too familiar with web development, we had a lot to learn with Flask, and how we would use the API in our app. However, we made significant progress, after setting up the software and getting through the first few steps.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the work we've done with the app, and how far we've come since we came up with the original idea. Despite the challenges, we made progress on creating the app.
What we learned
Because our app uses some software that we were not too familiar with, we also learned many new skills through this project, including web development.
What's next for LifeLink
We plan to continue developing the app, and adding more features with the feedback we received, and expanding our app to other services surrounding healthcare accessibility as well.
