Inspiration

One out of five athletes will suffer from a concussion within the span of one sports season. Football, lacrosse, and soccer are sports with higher amounts of reported concussions - they're also among the most common. Our mission is to allow a live feed, demonstrating the likelihood that they've suffered a concussion on the field.

What it does

Through the usage and application of an accelerometer - that is easily placed within either a helmet or mouth piece - the direct impact of athletes coming into contact with one another is recorded. This data is then directly sent to our IOT app, LifeBeat, allowing for the user to visually see the force of which the accelerometer has detected. The accelerometer through Bluetooth capability virtually transmits the G-Force that has been detected during the game play of athletes.

How we built it

Though the utilization of an IOT app and hardware.

Challenges we ran into

The developmental process took hours, upon hours of attempting to use the Ardenio Bluetooth. Our team was unable to synchronize the phone and application with the Bluetooth.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team has never used this hardware, or created an IOT application before. This learning curve proved to be a challenge that was surmounted with dedication.

What we learned

We learned how to utilize Ardenio, hardware and the IOT.

What's next for LifeBeat

We want to develop the app so that way it can further detect concussions with a stored data base.
