The Website Link

What Inspired Us

Our inspiration for this project actually came from one of the themes available at our local hackathon in Edison, NJ, called HackJA. The theme we chose to pursue was the common good, and in order to participate we had to create a website from scratch concerning an already existing non-for-profit, or one that we believe may come about in the future. We decided to pursue this goal both because it would be our first website, and it would also be beneficial to the community.

What's the Project

Life Invest itself is a microloan service for individuals in developed nations to offer out loans to those in lesser developed nations, with sums of money being put into savings accounts to still make money for those offering out the loans. However, this is not the complete purpose of the project. What we wanted to do was create a website that could be used for an up - and - coming non - for - profit that needed a professional looking and functioning website that would still be free, with a custom URL and easy to edit in HTML and CSS. The reason for this is so that smaller non - for - profits don't have to pay money to website building services, which are at times expensive under medium - sized bandwidth requirements. This keeps less money from non - profits going to other companies (like Weebly, Wix, or Squarespace), and more money for those in need.

We We Learned

We learned troubleshooting skills and most importantly, how to overcome two fatal flaws that stuck with us for a couple of hours - Capitalization for filenames and our failure to do so in our navigation code, and to not forget how to SAVE A FILE. However, we have fixed these issues and learned a lot on the way, finally getting our website up - and - running. We also increased our knowledge of HTML, CSS, and javascript.

How We Built

We build this project using HTML, CSS, and a bit of javascript. You can see our code on my GitHub repository here..

What's Next for Life Invest

In the future, we wish to create more templates for different types of non - for - profits to use and make the websites more customizable with heavily commented code. This will allow for any average person to see everything that's going on and so that they too can customize and edit the code themselves. We also wish to make it easier to add and get rid of pages in HTML, so that a non - coder can navigate (haha, see what I did there) the navigation code, customize the webpage fonts and div container sizes, and create a free HTML website for their non - for - profit. Thanks for reading!!!!
