Inspiration

Thalassemia patients require regular blood transfusions, often 2–3 times a week. The uncertainty of donor availability, lack of real-time blood stock visibility, and poor tracking of transfusion history can risk lives. Inspired by the critical need for a streamlined solution, we imagined an intelligent system that makes life easier for patients and more efficient for healthcare providers.

What it does

Connects thalassemia patients with verified blood donors and nearby blood banks

Uses ML to match and prioritize donors based on blood type, location, and health status

Sends reminders for iron chelation therapy, transfusions, and medication

Tracks blood stock levels, donor activity, and transfusion history

Provides real-time emergency alerts (SOS)

Maintains secure registration via Aadhaar or Health ID

Allows feedback from users to improve donor experience and system efficiency

How we built it

We can build it using - React Native - for Frontend Node.js with Express.js - for Backend Firebase (for real-time data) and MongoDB (for structured history)- Database storage AI/ML: Custom models to predict transfusion needs and match donors

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring real-time accuracy of blood stock data

Managing data privacy and security for health records

Creating fair prioritization during emergencies

Keeping donors engaged and willing to donate regularly

Accomplishments that we're proud of

End-to-end integration between donors, patients, and blood banks

Accurate donor matching using AI/ML

An intuitive interface tailored for low-tech users (including regional languages)

SOS and feedback loop features are built in for emergency support and improvement

What we learned

The complexity of healthcare logistics and the importance of trust and transparency

How personalization (via Aadhaar and Health ID) helps improve medical care

Building scalable systems under strict constraints like data privacy laws

What's next for Life Support - for Thalassemia

Extend support for other chronic diseases like hemophilia

Integrate with more hospitals and blood banks

Launch a donor reward system (badges, thank-you messages, leaderboards)

Add offline support for rural/low-connectivity users

Introduce AI-based transfusion forecasting for doctors
