Inspiration

The idea for our Life Simulator game came from our desire to create a game that could teach people financial literacy. We also drew inspiration from games like BitLife and the Life board game.

What it does/what we used

Using Twine and HTML, we created a video game that essentially functions as a choose-your-own-adventure storyline, starting from birth! As you progress through the game, the player will be presented with tasks and prompts that will lead them down different timelines. Eventually, as all good things must come to, the game ends with a death stat. Hopefully, through the statistics accumulated through the playthrough, players will gain insight into the importance of making wise decisions in life.

Challenges we ran into

At the beginning of the project, we were initially confused about how to approach the themes presented to us in a small time frame. We knew we wanted to take a video game approach, but the challenge was that it could become increasingly complicated and convoluted. However, we triumphed and are all very proud of what we produced.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The sheer amount of passages we were able to create and the creation, manipulation, and tracking of variables were two things we were proud of while making the project.

What we learned

While one of our teammates was well-versed in Twine, two others were less familiar with the software and learned a lot throughout the process. The ease at which Twine makes it to create a choose-your-own-adventure game.

What's next for Life Simulator

This is a very early stage of the Life Simulator game, obviously, so we hope to enhance the game with more graphics and features so that it can better serve its intended purpose of teaching people financial literacy. In the future, we would also want to add gambling and in-game purchases that would affect the finances of the player.
