Inspiration
While brainstorming, we decided to think about problems that we face in everyday life. As teenagers ourselves, we have seen and faced struggles, such as stress, mood swings, procrastination, and unhealthy food habits. This inspired us to make a web application to bring several resources and activities together as a tool to better combat the health issues that modern teenagers face.
What it does
By including several resources and interactive activities, Life Saver For Teens acts as a tool to help teenagers improve their health and habits. For example, to improve the users' mental well-being, Life Saver provides direct links to yoga and meditation videos, access to mood tracker PDFs, a joke generator based on your mood, and a brain dump section. There are numerous other resources and interactive activities that are included along with the physical well-being category and productivity category as well.
How we built it
In order to tackle the broad topic of teenage health issues, after writing our ideas of combatting the problem on a Google Doc, we organized the ideas into three main categories: mental well-being, physical well-being, and productivity. We used bubble.io to design the web application. With bubble.io, we were able to add interactive activities involving notetaking, making a to-do list, etc. Along the way, we utilized Google Drive, Google Sheet, and Canva to make the study plans, water intake trackers, and meal planners to add onto our design onto bubble.io.
Challenges we ran into
One main challenge we ran into was generating the ideas and finding a way to incorporate them into our web application. Teenage health issues was a pretty broad topic, so there were many ideas that we wanted to include to address as many of the specific issues teenagers faces (like sleep deprivation, mood swings, limited physical activity, and more). We had to be as efficient as we could and get rid of ideas that weren't necessary. However, in the end, we were able to successfully include a majority of the ideas we had when we separated the topic into three sections: mental health, physical health, and productivity. Additionally, we did have some trouble with using bubble.io since it was a tool we were unfamiliar with. Though there were several tutorials, understanding how to use bubble.io took much time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're extremely proud of how we were able to create interactive activities on Life Saver. For example, we were able to get user input to create a to-do list, a history of notes taken, etc. We figured out how to utilize databases to store user input as well.
What we learned
We learned how to adapt and learn to use new software. We heavily utilized tutorials, articles, and tips online to use bubble.io. We had never used this before, so we had to adapt and constantly learn new ways to use the functions of the platform.
What's next for Life Saver
We want to update the app's scalability and accessibility. This could include a lot more resources, a mobile app, and customization. We also want users to continue using the app in their daily lives, through text/email notifications. This could remind users of there upcoming tasks, goals, etc.
