Life’s Too Short - AI That Roasts Your Time-Wasting Habits

Inspiration

We’ve all been there—mindlessly scrolling, jumping from one app to another, only to realize we’ve wasted hours on things that don’t really matter. Life’s Too Short was born from the idea that people need a wake-up call when it comes to their digital habits. Instead of just another screen-time tracker, we wanted to create something bold, direct, and hilarious—an AI that roasts you for wasting time. If humor can make people rethink their habits, then why not use it for productivity?

What it does

Life’s Too Short connects to your phone’s screen-time or browsing history and breaks down exactly where your time is going. Instead of just giving you boring stats, our AI analyzes your habits and mercilessly roasts you for wasting time. Whether it’s spending 5 hours a day on TikTok or rewatching a show for the 10th time, the app delivers sarcastic and witty responses to make you rethink your choices.

MVP Features:

  • Tracks phone usage per app
  • AI-generated personalized roasts based on your most-wasted time
  • Encourages better digital habits with humor

How we built it

We used:

  • React Native for a smooth, cross-platform mobile experience.
  • Firebase for backend authentication and real-time database management.
  • AI-powered roasting engine trained on common digital habits to generate witty, personalized responses.

Challenges we ran into

  • Accessing accurate screen-time data: Some platforms have restrictions on tracking app usage.
  • Fine-tuning the AI's humor: Making sure the AI is funny but not too harsh—we wanted to roast, not ruin people’s self-esteem!
  • Performance optimization: Ensuring the app runs smoothly while processing large amounts of usage data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully implemented real-time app usage tracking for multiple devices.
  • Built an AI-driven roasting engine that dynamically generates personalized responses.
  • Created an engaging and fun UX that makes users actually want to track their screen time.

What we learned

  • Behavioral psychology: People are more likely to change habits when confronted with humor rather than dry statistics.
  • Mobile app development challenges: Especially when working with APIs for screen-time tracking.
  • Building AI-driven humor: Balancing sarcasm, wit, and relevance to keep users engaged without making them feel bad.

What's next for Life’s Too Short

  • Custom roast levels: Let users choose how harsh or sarcastic the AI gets.
  • Gamification: Reward users for reducing screen time with achievements and levels.
  • Integration with wearable devices: Track productivity alongside screen time.
  • Social leaderboards: Compete with friends to see who’s wasting the least time (or getting roasted the hardest).

At the end of the day, Life’s Too Short to waste it scrolling endlessly. Our goal is to help people become more mindful of their time—one hilarious roast at a time.
