Inspiration

The inspiration for Life Pulse - Blood Blank came from a deeply personal emergency. A member of my family was suddenly hospitalized and urgently required a blood transfusion. My entire family rushed into panic mode, spending agonizing minutes calling relative after relative, friend after friend. Many didn't pick up because they were at work or busy, creating an overwhelming sense of helplessness. Fortunately, we secured the required blood because her group was relatively common.

But that terrifying experience left me asking: What happens to families facing critical emergencies with rare blood types? In acute situations, hospital blood banks often face severe shortages, and traditional phone chains take hours that patients simply do not have.

When I saw the Build with AI hackathon announcement, I knew exactly what I had to build. AI was created to eliminate friction, handle complex tasks, and ultimately preserve human life. I set out to prove how AI-driven coordination can solve real-world emergency dispatch challenges.

What it does

  • Interactive Donor Radar: Displays nearby available donors as dynamic, green scattered nodes surrounding the receiver node for quick visual triage.
  • Zero-Friction Emergency Matching: Connects Hospital Coordinators/Receivers and Donors through a state-driven request machine (PENDING $\rightarrow$ ACCEPTED/REJECTED $\rightarrow$ Emergency Chat).
  • Privacy-Gated Direct Coordination: Unlocks direct communication and contact sharing only after a donor explicitly accepts an emergency request.
  • Client-Side Zero Latency: Uses client-side persistence (localStorage) to guarantee uninterrupted session state without requiring database latency during high-urgency situations.
  • 1-Click Judge Demo Mode: Allows evaluators to test both Receiver and Donor workflows instantly without typing test data.

How we built it

Although I registered as an individual developer, I built this as a human-AI team, pairing with AI tools (like Antigravity and Codex) to transform conceptual wireframes into responsive React components.

Life Pulse - Blood Blank is built using React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS. To eliminate backend setup latency during high-urgency interactions, state management is strictly handled via an asynchronous localStorage event loop.

To simulate optimal spatial distribution for radar mapping without requiring heavy GIS backends, donor node coordinates $(\theta_i, r_i)$ relative to the emergency center are computed using a bounded dispersion formula:

$$\theta_i = \frac{2\pi \cdot i}{N} + \delta_{\text{random}}$$

$$r_i = R_{\text{min}} + \sqrt{\text{rand}()} \cdot (R_{\text{max}} - R_{\text{min}})$$

Where $N$ represents total nearby available donors, $R$ dictates radar boundary radii, and $\delta$ prevents node overlapping.

Challenges we ran into

  • Token & Quota Constraints: Developing purely with AI assistance meant navigating free-tier quota limits mid-development, requiring efficient prompt engineering and switching tools to stay on track.
  • Complex State Synchronization: Ensuring multi-role interaction (Donor vs. Receiver) persisted correctly in localStorage without pre-triggering auto-accepted chat messages required continuous hands-on debugging.
  • Logic Drift: AI assistants occasionally generated pre-filled assumptions. I had to continually audit the source code to enforce a strict state machine where chat coordination unlocks only upon donor verification.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully designing and deploying a full-fledged, demo-ready emergency matching workflow as a Human + AI team.
  • Eliminating unnecessary signup friction so urgent blood requests can be initiated in seconds.
  • Proving that AI can be leveraged effectively to build impactful, human-centric emergency solutions.

What we learned

This journey taught me that AI is the ultimate multiplier for human empathy and innovation. I learned how to orchestrate complex frontend state persistence, design accessible UI color systems (red/green emergency contrast), and lead a rapid software lifecycle from initial case study to live deployment.

What's next for Life Pulse- Blood Blank

  • Integrating real-time geolocation via Map APIs for live distance radius calculations.
  • Automated SMS and Push notifications for urgent donor dispatching.
  • Partnering with local hospital networks and blood banks to turn this beginner-friendly prototype into a real-world dispatch engine.
