Life OS – Project Story
Inspiration
I bounced between Todoist, Google Tasks, a habit-tracker for morning stretches, and a Notion board for yearly goals—four different tabs, zero synergy. Within a week every list felt like another chore. Friends echoed the same: “My planner is just a boring checklist I never open.”
Where the pain showed up
- Fragmented workflow – tasks, habits, and long-term goals lived in silos; duplicate typing, no shared progress.
- Motivation crash – overdue badges created guilt instead of momentum.
- No reward loop – checking a box gave no thrill, so people abandoned the apps.
One late-night gaming session changed everything: a tiny side-quest popped XP and fireworks—instant dopamine.
Why did beating pixel monsters feel better than clearing my real-life inbox?
The spark
- Games track and celebrate progress; productivity tools only track.
- XP bars, streak boosters, and level-ups could keep users coming back daily.
- A single neon-themed hub could replace four bland apps.
Enter Life OS
- Unified hub for Tasks, Habits, and multi-step Missions—each action feeds an XP bar.
- Six “Cyber Zones” (Body, Mind, Soul, etc.) turn life areas into RPG classes.
- Level-ups drop in-game currency for Streak Freeze, XP Boosters, cosmetic skins—productivity that feels like play.
Bigger vision 🚀
Life OS isn’t just a hackathon prototype; it’s the seed of a full-blown startup aiming to replace dull to-do lists worldwide with a gamified life-tracker people actually enjoy opening every day.
What It Does
🗂 Unified Hub
Tasks, Habits, and long‑term Missions (multi‑step goals) live in a single workspace.
🗺 Six “Cyber Zones”
Every activity awards XP to its zone—each with its own neon palette:
| Zone | Quick Purpose |
|---|---|
| Bioware | Upgrade your hardware—workouts, nutrition, recovery |
| CogniCore | Sharpen the CPU—focus sessions, learning, mental care |
| SoulSanctum | Fuel inner peace—meditation, creativity, calm |
| SkillStream | Prototype skills—courses, experiments, side‑projects |
| ProEngine | Power your profession—deliverables, networking |
| RePlayGrid | Curate leisure—gaming backlog, hobbies, adventures |
🎮 Gamified Feedback
- XP bar, levels, streaks, zone‑tinted highlights
- DataPulse analytics page: XP curve, streak histogram, completion rate & more
- Quick‑tap status buttons
Queued → Processing → Archived(no drag‑and‑drop)
How We Built It
| Layer | Stack |
|---|---|
| Frontend | React + TypeScript, TailwindCSS, Recharts, lucide‑react |
| Backend | Supabase (PostgreSQL + RLS + RPC) |
| Realtime | Live hooks stream XP/streak updates into charts |
| Design | Cyberpunk‑neon palette, dynamic zone logos, dark mode |
| Dev Boost | Claude in Bolt for codegen & nightly refactors |
Challenges We Ran Into
- Timeboxing – Shipping tasks + habits + missions + analytics in one weekend.
- DnD Fatigue – Drag‑and‑drop felt clunky → switched to one‑tap status.
- Supabase Migrations – Renamed columns broke SQL views; solved with generated columns.
- Fun vs. Bloat – Every feature had to reinforce gamification or get cut.
Accomplishments We’re Proud Of
- Full CRUD for tasks, habits, missions with instant XP roll‑ups.
- DataPulse dashboard that actually motivates when the chart spikes.
- Aesthetic sidebar with animated zone logos & color‑synced accents.
- Built after hours while working a 9‑to‑5—fueled by coffee & Bolt.
What We Learned
- Gamification works—watching XP climb is a powerful feedback loop.
- Supabase RPC + RLS are great, but name your columns carefully.
- AI pair‑programming lets a solo dev move like a small team.
- Users prefer quick‑tap status changes on desktop and mobile.
What’s Next for Life OS (Q3 → Q4)
