Life Long Toothbrush

Inspiration

Our inspiration came from the desire to innovate a daily use product, making it more sustainable, durable, affordable, and user friendly. We identified the toothbrush as a product that we use throughout our entire lives, yet there is still no optimal solution that allows users to maintain their toothbrush for the long term. We aimed to address the gaps in current designs and create a toothbrush that could evolve with its user, from childhood to adulthood, without the need for constant disposal.

What it does

The Life Long Toothbrush incorporates four key functions:

Extendable Handle: Adapts to different hand sizes as users grow. Replaceable Bristles: Ensures longevity and hygiene by offering age appropriate bristle sizes for different stages of life. Tongue Scraper: A multi-purpose feature that promotes better oral hygiene. Solid Toothpaste Storage and Dispenser: Facilitates sustainable, waste-reducing toothpaste application.

The solid toothpaste has two key advantages:

Multiple Flavours: To keep users engaged, particularly children and individuals with ADHD. Different Sizes: Ensures the right amount of toothpaste is used, reducing waste and improving efficiency.

The Life Long Toothbrush aims to revolutionise the oral care routine by providing a sustainable, multi-functional, and user-friendly solution that grows with its user. We have also innovated with solid toothpaste, offering various flavours and sizes to motivate users to maintain good dental hygiene, while reducing environmental impact.

How we built it

We used Fusion 360 to model our final design, incorporating the mechanisms for each of the unique functionalities. This allowed us to visualise and refine the design, ensuring the practicality of every feature and its smooth integration into the toothbrush.

Challenges we ran into

As we brainstormed numerous ideas, one of the key challenges was narrowing down our focus to a product with the greatest potential for innovation. The large number of possibilities made it difficult to decide, but we ultimately chose to address a product that we use daily - one that can significantly contribute to sustainability and improve the overall user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are particularly proud of creating an inclusive and user-friendly product that is easy to use. We successfully transitioned from a conceptual idea to a final product, completing the CAD design within 24 hours. This accomplishment highlights both the speed and efficiency with which our team worked, while ensuring the product met all functional requirements.

What's next for Life Long Toothbrush

Cost effectiveness: We aim to make the Life Long Toothbrush affordable for all, ensuring its accessibility.
Toothpaste Tablet Storage: We will explore the integration of solid toothpaste tablets, making the storage and application even more efficient and sustainable.
Improve design: We want to take human factors into account of our design more to enhance users' experiences and make them look more aesthetic pleasing.
