Inspiration

We brainstormed issues and realized that there is a declining interest in public libraries. We wanted to motivate more people to go out and physically go to libraries, as they are an important gathering space that doesn't require a purchase, just a free library card.

What it does

LibraryQuest is a gamified map of libraries all over San Francisco. It creates an incentive and motivates people to go out and explore the libraries in the city. There are quests that reward people the more they explore. It is built solely for mobile devices.

How we built it

We utilized the Unity Engine as well as the C# coding language to build the project. We also relied on the Bing Maps API in order to get the map data.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenges were learning both a new coding language and game engine in the span of 1-2 days. We had a lot of ideas that made the project ambitious. Trying to do something that would work in Java but not in C# made us frustrated.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the progress we managed to make in just a day. We believe our communication skills when it came to dividing the work and merging on GitHub were pretty solid. The front end team loved learning and designing the User Interfaces and Mascots for the app. We're also proud of how the map API worked kind of in our favor as touch controls were added.

What we learned

C and C# were NOT the same. To us, C# was Java, but not exactly, which gave us a very hard time when it came to the syntax. We have a semi solid understanding of Unity now, specifically the 2D development aspects of it. We also learned about Typescript's and components with the language
