Inspiration

I was inspired to create an advocacy project and found the economic disparity for queer minorities is an issue that tends to fall by the wayside.

What it does

This site provides informational and support resources related to the poverty of LGBT Americans and relief efforts using HTML forms and vanilla JavaScript.

How I built it

I conceptualized the site's layout, developed the theming and attributes in CSS, and then implemented more complex data manipulation in vanilla JavaScript.

Challenges I ran into

The DOM hierarchy tended to get away from me in JavaScript making it tricky to select particular elements. This gave me a lesson in debugging and using the web console.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I implemented dynamic JavaScript animations and manipulated user-submitted data from forms.

What I learned

This was my first endeavor with web design and I learned up from the basics of HTML to more complex vanilla JavaScript. Additionally, I researched color theory to develop an aesthetically pleasing and readable theme.

What's next for LGBT American Poverty Website

Next, I would like to procure a proper domain name to deploy the web page, add a live blog feed with recent information about these issues, and backend support for persistent data such as a SQL database.
