Inspiration

Being current freshmen looking at leases for next year, we were made aware of just how difficult it can be to feel unaware of nuances in such important legal documents. It opens yourself up to be exploited and scammed by other parties who have whole legal teams behind them. This is something that is extremely common in the business world for small businesses which is why we wanted to address this problem by providing small businesses with support and protection to ensure that even if they cannot afford legal services at their current stage, they are not exploited by the power imbalance between them and bigger businesses.

What it does

Allows the user to upload legal documents that are then analysed by AI and flagged for high and moderate risk clauses. A summary in plain English is also generated to ensure there are no loopholes that go unnoticed amidst the legal jargon.

How we built it

We made use of Figma to generate a base after which we used design tools like GoodNotes to draw out own website elements. We used SupaBase to store the Groq APIs and for the sign up/log in capabilities. We then went into the source code to add the functionalities that we required.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with the APIs key as there was a limit associated with the free version. This made it difficult to test as we had to wait periods in between. Also, we had to think quite a bit about how we wanted our risk score to be calculated.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the highlighting we added as we think it made the design very interactive and easy to understand. We are also very happy with how our custom design worked out.

What we learned

We learned a lot about Figma and also how to use API keys.

What's next for Lexosaur

We would like to pivot from Groq API keys and fine-tune a LLM to train on our own data sets. This will help improve the accuracy of our legal help.
