Inspiration
Security incidents can happen anywhere, but managing camera events, visitor records, incidents, and digital evidence across separate systems can be difficult. We wanted to build a single platform that brings these security workflows together.
What it does
LexLock RingGuard is a security incident and evidence management platform designed to connect Ring camera events with practical security workflows. It provides four key modules:
- Ring Events: View security events and connect with Ring camera functionality.
- Visitor Log: Register visitors and track their entry and exit.
- Evidence Vault: Upload digital evidence, generate SHA-256 hashes, and verify file integrity.
- Incident Management: Create and manage security incidents, review their status, and link evidence to cases.
How we built it
We built the application using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. We integrated Ring-related API routes and created separate modules for visitor management, evidence handling, and incident tracking. The application is deployed on Vercel.
Challenges we faced
One of our main challenges was connecting the camera workflow with the rest of the security management system. We also worked on keeping the modules organized and creating a straightforward user interface. Ring authentication and reliable persistent storage are areas we are continuing to improve.
What we learned
Building LexLock RingGuard helped us understand API integration, full-stack development, digital evidence integrity, and the importance of connecting separate security workflows into one application.
What's next
Our next steps include improving Ring stream reliability, adding persistent cloud storage and database support, and strengthening evidence access controls and auditability. Our goal is to make security incident management more organized, traceable, and reliable.
