💡 Inspiration
Dyslexia affects millions globally, yet most tools treat everyone the same. We wanted to change that. Inspired by a close friend’s struggles navigating daily tasks with dyslexia, we imagined an assistant that truly adapts to their unique needs.
🧠 What it does
LexiPal is a personalized companion web app that:
- 🧠 Identifies a user's dyslexia challenges through a quiz
- 📖 Simplifies complex text into easier language
- 🗓️ Helps schedule tasks with icon-based reminders
- 🎙️ Reads text aloud and takes voice commands
- 🎮 Offers gamified exercises for skill improvement
- 🤝 Builds community by connecting users to peer support
🛠️ How I built it
- Built entirely on Bolt.new with React + TailwindCSS
- Supabase for authentication and user data
- OpenAI + react-speech-recognition for natural conversation
- Custom dashboard using modular components for accessibility
- Deployed via Netlify
🧩 Challenges I ran into
- Bolt lacks traditional build tools, so configuring Netlify to run properly was tricky.
- Ensuring the voice assistant worked across devices and didn't overwhelm dyslexic users required lots of fine-tuning.
- Personalization — balancing simplicity while still giving users meaningful control.
🎓 What I learned
- Accessibility-first design requires thinking from the user’s shoes.
- Bolt is incredibly fast for prototyping — but deployment needs a manual setup.
- AI can be both powerful and gentle when used with empathy.
🚀 What’s next
- Launching multilingual and mobile versions
- Allowing educators and parents to co-manage a student’s support journey
- Deeper analytics to help users track progress
