Inspiration

Software engineering teams often suffer from a fundamental communication gap: product requirements and technical tasks live in structured developer tools like Jira, while the rest of the company is left in the dark trying to decipher status updates. Over time, Jira backlogs become sprawling, unmanageable lists where context is lost to everyone outside the engineering bubble.

What it does

LexiCode is an AI-powered documentation workspace that syncs directly with Jira.

Jira-to-Page Transformation: It pulls your Jira project (such as epics, stories, and subtasks) and automatically structures them into an intuitive document hierarchy (epics as parent pages, issues nested below with their keys and statuses intact).
Contextual Document Editing: Descriptions arrive as editable content blocks, letting teams write around the ticket rather than getting trapped inside a rigid ticketing form.
Workspace-Wide AI Assistant (Mistral Large): Features a built-in AI interface that can answer questions, summarize tasks, and pull context across the entire tree rather than just a single isolated page.
Flexible Account Models: Supports both individual workspaces and team-wide business registrations for seamless sharing.

How we built it

Frontend & Architecture: Built using Next.js (App Router) for a lightning-fast web application with a sleek, dark-mode/light-mode UI layout.

State & Data Management: Managed client-side workspace states efficiently with Zustand, paired with custom local persistence and API routing.

Jira Integration: Developed backend API integrations to securely handle Jira project ingestion, mapping issues, epics, and metadata into a hierarchical document tree.

AI Engine: Integrated Mistral Large to handle advanced contextual search and chat capabilities across the workspace documents.

Challenges we ran into

Hierarchical Mapping: Translating flat or multi-level Jira issue relationships into a clean, recursive document tree structure without losing item statuses or breaking parent-child associations.UI/UX Consistency: Designing a dual-purpose workspace sidebar that balances standard markdown-style page creation with live Jira synchronization and clean dropdown actions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully building a frictionless sync mechanism that converts a chaotic Jira backlog into a clean, readable documentation layout in seconds.

Implementing a responsive, custom workspace sidebar featuring project navigation, search results, favorites, and real-time Jira sync status indicators.

Integrating a cross-document AI chat assistant that provides accurate answers using the entire project hierarchy as context.

What we learned

The immense value of uniting task management with qualitative notes; keeping documentation side-by-side with execution items drastically reduces context switching for developers.

Advanced state handling in Next.js when synchronizing external APIs (like Jira webhooks/endpoints) with localized workspace stores.

What's next for LexiCode

Bi-Directional Syncing: Empowering teams to update Jira ticket statuses, comments, and fields directly from the document content blocks. Cross-Departmental Access: While team members can pull and view the shared business workspace pages at any time, we plan to introduce live multi-user presence indicators to show when someone else is viewing or updating a ticket outline.
