What it does

How you ever wanted to be healthy and exercise but could never work up the motivation? Well, we made the perfect website for you! Our website offers users a chance to workout... only gamified.

Inspiration

We were inspired by RPG games, where they incentivize players to continuously do repetitive tasks in order to gain experience points and levels. We wanted to recreate this reward-loop for something more beneficial to someone's everyday life and found that exercise fits this theme quite well. The streak feature was inspired by Duolingo's streak system, which keeps users motivated and using their app.

How we built it

The languages we used to build this web application are HTML, CSS and JS. We also used the React library to aid with the front end and MongoDB with our database. The backend used NodeJS.

Challenges we ran into

Being our first hackathon, there were a number of learning curves that we had to face. First of all, there was an issue with managing time when developing our web application. Between the numerous workshops we wanted to attend and accommodating for sleep, we definitely had much less than 36 hours to dedicate to building this project. Another challenge we faced is that our group had a lack of experience with front end development. We spent a large chunk of time simply learning how to use front end development tools, and didn't have enough time to allocate to actually building the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

For ALL of the members, it was our first ever web development experience! We're proud that we managed to cobble together somewhat resembling a visual representation of the idea we had in mind. We're also proud that we were able to try something we've never done before and experiment with tools outside our comfort zone.

What we learned

Over the course of 36 hours, we learned new programming languages, libraries, and ways to interpret obscure error messages.

What's next for Level UP

In the future, we would like to continue developing this product so that it could be a fully working web application. Hopefully...
