Inspiration
As women who have struggled with these types of resources being provided, we wanted to extend the knowledge we gained and lessons we've learned to other women seeking advice in their careers and their finances. Although some support is given to women for all things career-wise, we decided to formulate a web app that only has women mentors to not only spread the knowledge of ourselves and others, but to also build a community of women who only seek to make each other better.
What it does
This web app lets you navigate between career planning and interview prep as well as two pages for financial tips. There is also a finances calculator that calculates any type of monetary calculation that someone might need. The mentors that would appear on this web app would be primarily for the career-focused sections; however, they do not have to be limited to those sections. The main purpose of this web app is to teach women how to take control of their own money and advance their career, especially in male-dominated fields.
How we built it
We built the frontend using HTML/CSS with the help of Figma to prototype and visualize the design for the web app that we needed. The backend is controlled by Google Cloud and Firebase and the website is deployed using Vercel.
Challenges we ran into
Being a team of two, we had to completely separate tasks with little crossover, which lead to pretty much solo work and served as a basis of frustration at times. We had issues with the finance API as well as some of the HTML code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to create a webpage that integrated many levels of HTML and even developed a financial calculator that covers a broad range of functions.
What we learned
We learned a lot more about linking frontend and backend coding as well as practiced the languages that we already knew.
What's next for Level Up Ladies
Getting more APIs for other sections of the web page would be the first priority, as data drives a lot of the decisions that we make, especially about our careers and finances. It would be useful for the web app to provide data not only about the current stock market, but also on how the hiring market is to assess career plans.
