Accommodation hassles around Nigerian Campuses

Finding a good accommodation around any campus in Nigeria is a real pain to who ever is seeking. This is partly because of the high demand from students which makes house owners lazy and hence little or no effort is put into advertising available spaces thereby increasing the difficulty of it been found by the majority. Letty is here to change the narrative.

Letty is an online platform where students can log onto and search for available housing options around their campus. Provision is made to secure an appointment with agents to go checkout the space in person and proceed to securing the space for use. This cancels out the need to trek long distances operating on information got from strangers lIving around the area.

One access point to letty is a mobile application for android users. It was built using java, xml, android studio. We used firebase for our database, authentication and storage needs.We used git for version control and github for team collaboration.

As a team of three working remotely, we constantly had to wait on each others work, ran into light troubles at some point which halted our work and we also had to "learn" on the job to implement features we had never handled before.

Inspite of the challenges, we are proud of the fact that in less than a week, we teamed up, traded ideas, agreed on a problem to tackle and have implemented more than 60% of the solution. We have started work on 2 andorid applications (one for admins the other for clients) to interact with our platform and are in the final stages of building them.

Working on this project, opened our eyes to the possibilities and potential that lie within us. We have come to an understanding that most of the problems around us still exist because no one has given it serious thought. This project has helped fined tuned our skills as android developers and improved our team collaboration skills.

Moving forward we hope to expand our platorm beyond Lagos state to campuses across Nigeria and beyond. We also hope to cater for the overall populace of the country and not just students something in the future. We look forward to building a mobile application for iOS users and a Web application to increase the number of access points to our platform.

We hope to create a future where everyone can comfortably search for and secure accommodation spaces online.
