Inspiration
I have a collection of every sentimental envelope that was ever given to me in my lifetime (birthday cards, letters, notes, etc.) I like to look and read them every now and then as they serve as a reminder of all the people who have cared about me in my life and I like to look back and reflect. This personal archive highlighted how messages gain new meaning when revisited over time. Building on this, our project explores how introducing delay and intentional friction into digital communication can create similar moments of reflection. At the same time, we wanted to recreate the experience of writing a letter digitally, something that feels increasingly lost and, at times, inaccessible, as journaling and letter-writing can be an expensive and material-based practice. By creating a space that embraces the imperfections of real-life writing (uneven pacing, inability to delete words), we aim to design an experience that feels more human, reflective, and present .
What it does
Receive and send intentionally delayed personalized, hand-written letters to your future self and friends
How we built it
Brainstormed in Figma Jam. Created assets and prototypes in Figma. Created animations and put everything together in Framer
Challenges we ran into
We had a lot of ideas to choose from, originally we wanted to build a video game like map where spaces on the map unlock as you go explore, but realized that wasn't the scope of the rubric/theme. We ended up mapping out each idea with respect to the rubric to decide. We were also having some difficulties with the animations in Framer.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of being able to create a prototype in 24hrs despite the difficulties we encountered.
What we learned
We learned the basics of Framer including basic animation, ui/ux prototyping, and branding design within a 24hr turnover.
What's next for Letters to Your Future Self
